Where to Stay in Tirana: The Best Areas & Hotels
Tirana, Albania’s capital, might not be on everyone’s bucket list – and frankly, it wasn’t really on mine either.
But since we did a road trip through the country and landed and departed from Tirana International Airport, we decided to spend two nights in the city since we were already there.
And I’m really glad we did. There’s lots to do in Tirana, and you’ll discover colourful streets, quirky cafés, street art, and friendly locals. Everything is packed into a walkable area, and if you stay in the right spot, you won’t even need public transport!
In this guide, I’ll take you through the best areas to stay in Tirana, from the bustling heart of Skanderbeg Square and the trendy vibes of Blloku, to the lively Pazari i Ri and the more relaxed Komuna e Parisit, with hotel recommendations for each.
By the end of this post, you’ll know exactly where to stay in Tirana – whether you’re after history, nightlife, good food, or just a convenient base to explore the city.

1. Skanderbeg Square Area
Best for first‑time visitors
If you want to be in the heart of Tirana, staying around Skanderbeg Square is the way to go. It’s the city’s main hub, so you’ll be close to many of the top sights, restaurants, and cafés. Everything is within walking distance, which makes it easy to explore without a car.
The square itself is spacious and open, dominated by the statue of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. Around it, you’ll find some of Tirana’s most iconic landmarks, including the National History Museum with its famous mosaic, the historic Clock Tower, and the beautifully decorated Et’hem Bey Mosque.
This area is lively but still comfortable to walk around. In the mornings, locals enjoy coffee at outdoor cafés and in the evenings, the streets are perfect for a relaxed stroll or a casual dinner.
Staying here gives you a central base to discover Tirana’s main attractions and still enjoy the local atmosphere.

Maritim Hotel Plaza Tirana
Maritim Hotel Plaza Tirana is a 5‑star hotel in the city center, just a few steps from Skanderbeg Square. It occupies a tall, modern building with around 190 rooms and suites spread over more than 20 floors.
The rooms are all modern and bright, with free Wi‑Fi, air conditioning, minibars, and flat‑screen TVs. There are several room types, from standard comfort rooms to larger suites with separate living areas.
The hotel offers multiple restaurants and bars, including Mediterranean and international dining options, plus a stylish lounge bar for evening drinks. There’s also a large wellness area with a spa and fitness center.
Lot Boutique Hotel
Lot Boutique Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel just a few hundred meters from Skanderbeg Square, so you can easily explore the city on foot.
The hotel combines elegant baroque-inspired design with modern touches and has 37 rooms, ranging from cosy standard rooms to larger executive suites. All rooms come with free Wi‑Fi, air conditioning, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, and some even feature balconies with city views.

2. Blloku
Best for nightlife and cafés
Blloku is Tirana’s trendiest neighborhood and the place to be if you want to experience the city’s social scene.
Once a restricted area for communist elites, it’s now full of life, with streets lined with cafés, bars, and restaurants. Walking around here, you’ll notice modern boutiques and small galleries alongside historic buildings.
During the day, it’s perfect for coffee breaks and casual walks. In the evening, Blloku comes alive with locals and visitors enjoying drinks, live music, or a relaxed dinner.
Despite its lively atmosphere, the streets are compact and walkable, so you can easily hop from one spot to another.

The hotel has 16 modern rooms, all with air conditioning, soundproof windows, flat‑screen TVs, and free Wi‑Fi. Each morning, there’s a free buffet breakfast, and you can relax at the lounge bar or coffee shop on site.

3. Pazari i Ri
Best for food lovers and a local vibe
Pazari i Ri, also known as the New Bazaar, is one of Tirana’s most charming neighborhoods. It’s a colorful area with a market selling fresh fruits, vegetables, and local products.
Walking through its streets, you’ll find small cafés, cozy restaurants, and traditional bakeries, making it perfect for food lovers.
The area has an authentic vibe that feels very local. It’s also centrally located, so you can easily walk to Skanderbeg Square or Blloku. The mix of historic buildings and modern renovations gives the neighborhood a unique character.
Staying here is ideal if you want to experience Tirana like a local, enjoy fresh market produce, and discover hidden gems in the city’s streets.

Bazaar Hotel is a charming boutique hotel located right in the middle of the Pazari i Ri area, only about a 7–8-minute walk from Skanderbeg Square, making it easy to explore the city’s main attractions on foot.
The hotel has around 36 rooms, including double, twin, and triple rooms, all equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and private bathrooms. Many rooms have views of the colorful bazaar area.
The hotel also offers airport transfers on request and comfortable common spaces, making it a great base if you want to stay in one of Tirana’s most vibrant and authentic areas.
Hotel Boka
Hotel Boka is a modern 4-star hotel located right next to the Pazari i Ri (New Bazaar) and only a short walk from Skanderbeg Square.
The hotel has around 20 rooms spread over three floors, all equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, minibars, desks, and flat-screen TVs. Some rooms also offer city views or balconies.
You can enjoy a continental or buffet breakfast, relax in the garden or shared lounge, and grab a drink at the hotel bar. There’s also a 24-hour reception and airport shuttle service available.
Gremmy Boutique Hotel
Gremmy Boutique Hotel is a small 4-star boutique hotel located on Rruga Shenasi Dishnica, less than a 10-minute walk from Skanderbeg Square and close to sights like the New Bazaar and the National Theater of Opera and Ballet.
The hotel has only 11 rooms, including single, double, and triple options. They all come with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, safes, and private bathrooms, and the modern design keeps everything simple and comfortable.
Although it’s a smaller property without a full restaurant, its central location near shops, cafés, and attractions makes it a convenient base for exploring Tirana on foot.
4. Komuna e Parisit
Best for modern vibes and quiet streets
Komuna e Parisit is one of Tirana’s newer neighborhoods, known for its modern buildings, wide streets, and a calmer atmosphere.
It’s a great area if you want to stay somewhere stylish and peaceful but still close to the action. The neighborhood has plenty of cafés, restaurants, and shops, and it’s popular with young professionals and expats.
While it’s a bit more residential than Skanderbeg Square or Blloku, it’s still very walkable. You can easily reach the city center in 10–15 minutes on foot or by taxi.
Komuna e Parisit is also near some green spots, making it nice for relaxed morning walks or evening strolls.

One of the highlights is the spa and wellness area, where you can relax in the sauna, steam room, or jacuzzi and book different massages and beauty treatments.

Primo Hotel
Primo Hotel is a modern 4-star hotel located on Rruga Medar Shtylla, close to Sheshi Wilson and around a 20–25-minute walk from Skanderbeg Square.
The hotel has 17 rooms, including double, twin, and family rooms. All come with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and private bathrooms, and some rooms also have balconies or city views.
You can enjoy a small café and bar on site, and breakfast is usually included. The hotel also offers a terrace, free parking, and a 24-hour front desk.
Olimpic Hotel
Olimpic Hotel is a small, family-run hotel located on Rruga Liman Kaba, close to the Grand Park of Tirana and the Artificial Lake. Skanderbeg Square is about a 25–30-minute walk away, but the area around the hotel is much quieter and greener than the busy city center.
The hotel has only 11 rooms, including double rooms, twin rooms, and suites, many with balconies or garden views. All rooms come with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and private bathrooms.
One of the highlights is the outdoor swimming pool and the garden area with sun loungers, where you can relax after exploring the city. There’s also an on-site restaurant serving European cuisine, a bar, and free parking.
