Wine Spring Kick-Off at Mo’s Kaiser’s Hof in Straß im Straßertale
Spring is finally here, and with it comes the famous Wine Spring in Lower Austria.
As a wine and food lover, I had the chance to attend the Kick-off event at Mo’s Kaiser’s Hof in Straß im Straßertale, where I enjoyed a five-course menu paired with wines from the winery Allram.
The combination of fresh flavors and local wines made it a truly unforgettable experience – and as someone who’s been vegan for the last seven years, I can honestly say this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
But what exactly is the Wine Spring – and why is it such a special event for wine lovers?

What is The Wine Spring?
The Wine Spring is a much-loved annual event across three of Lower Austria’s top wine regions – Kamptal, Kremstal, and Traisental. Every year, more than 220 wineries open their doors to visitors, offering the chance to taste their latest wines.
In 2025, the Wine Spring takes place on the weekend of April 26 and 27, with around 70 wineries kicking things off already on Friday, April 25.
You can stroll from winery to winery, enjoy tastings, and meet the winemakers personally. With just one entrance wristband, you get access to all participating wineries throughout the weekend. Tickets are available online and cost €30 in advance (until Friday noon) or €35 at every winery.
You’ll find more information about the participating wineries and how to get your ticket on the official website of the Wine Spring.
Mo’s Kaiser’s Hof & The Wine & Dine Experience
Every year, the 2-toque restaurant Mo’s Kaiser’s Hof kicks off the Wine Spring weekend with a special 5-course spring menu, perfectly paired with wines from a local winery.
This unique menu is available for both lunch and dinner throughout the Wine Spring weekend and continues the following weekend for the Tour de Vin.

A Five-Course Culinary Journey
This year’s menu is a true feast, not only for the taste buds but also for the eyes! Each dish is carefully crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients that showcase the best of spring in every bite.
We started the evening with a non-alcoholic aperitif: a fresh mix of apricot juice and tonic. The amuse bouche – a vegetable ball served on a creamy bed of potato and wild garlic crème – already promised an exciting culinary experience!

The first course featured a fresh pairing of Rosé wine with an asparagus and rhubarb combination. As a huge asparagus fan, this was a dream come true!
It was then followed by the second course, a velvety parsnip soup paired perfectly with the region’s signature wine, Grüner Veltliner. Although I’m not usually a fan of Grüner Veltliner, the fruity character of this one won me over!

As the third course, I was served a herb mushroom on a pea puree, paired with a refreshing Riesling, followed by the next course, a roasted cauliflower.
This dish came with two wines, since not everyone likes red wine, including me. A light Pinot Noir and a fuller Grauburgunder were served, and even as a non-red wine drinker, I found the Pinot Noir surprisingly light and delicious.

Last but not least – and my personal highlight – the dessert: a coconut panna cotta with rhubarb and strawberry sorbet, paired with a Grauburgunder Auslese from 2015.
I truly wish you could experience the panna cotta’s consistency and flavor – it was divine! Honestly, it was one of the best vegan desserts I’ve ever had!

As a vegan, I received slightly adapted versions of the menu. Instead of the fish and lamb in courses 3 and 4, I got the mushroom-based alternative and the roasted cauliflower.
My dessert also differed slightly – while others had a Muscovado creation, I got the panna cotta version.
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been lucky enough to try a lot of incredible vegan food over the years – but honestly, this experience easily ranks among my top three favorites ever!
Staying at The Kaiser’s Hof
Of course, after all that delicious food and wine, there’s no way you’d want to leave – and thankfully, you don’t have to! The Kaiser’s Hof offers ten individually and lovingly designed rooms that invite you to stay the night in style and comfort.
Each of the rooms has its unique charm: some feature carefully selected flea market furniture, while others have their terrace or, like mine, a cute little balcony.
But one thing they all have in common is the light and airy atmosphere – spacious, bright, and filled with natural light. The design deliberately avoids overwhelming decor, focusing instead on a calming, minimalist style.

Not only the rooms, but the Kaiser’s Hof as a whole is a truly unique place!
Originally an inn, it was part of the Kaiser family’s legacy, who were bakers and innkeepers in the area. Over the years, the building evolved, becoming a residential space for the Kaiser family and later a venue for the community.
In 2003, the house was placed under monument protection, preserving its historical significance.
Today, managed by the Wimmer-Joannidis family, the Kaiser’s Hof has been carefully restored.
What once was a completely dilapidated and neglected place now features the 2-toque restaurant Mo’s, led by chef Philipp Wimmer-Joannidis, ten charming rooms, an event hall, and even a party cellar!

Final Words
The Wine Spring Kick-off at Mo’s Kaiser’s Hof was an unforgettable experience that beautifully combined the best of Kamptal’s wine with gourmet cuisine.
The attention to detail, the incredible wine pairings, and the stunning setting made it a truly special evening.
I was absolutely blown away by the ambiance, the food, just everything!
It’s such a pity I haven’t been there before – neither at the Kaiser’s Hof nor in Straß im Straßertale in general. But one thing’s for sure: it won’t be my last time!
