Hotel Schloss Haindorf – A Charming Stay in Langenlois
I’ve been to Langenlois a couple of times now – after all, it’s Austria’s largest wine town and a beautiful getaway for wine lovers like me. With its vineyards, small-town charm, and relaxed pace, it’s a place I always enjoy coming back to.
But somehow, I never considered Schloss Haindorf a place to stay. This is a pity, because I recently finally got the chance – and was genuinely surprised by how much this historic hotel offers.
Whether you’re visiting for a relaxed weekend or looking for a special setting for an event, Schloss Haindorf is worth a closer look.
So, let me show you what makes this place stand out!

A Quiet Yet Convenient Location
When I arrived by car, using Google Maps, I wasn’t entirely sure I was on the right track. The route led me past the center of Langenlois, through narrow streets, and by the garden centers of the Langenlois Horticultural School.
But before long, I reached Schloss Haindorf, just on the outskirts of the town. It’s tucked away in a peaceful spot, surrounded by vineyards, gardens, and its own park.
Despite the calm setting, it’s less than a 10-minute walk to the center and just under 20 minutes to the train station, making it easy to get around.
Plus, it’s the perfect base for hiking and biking tours – and the best part: hotel guests can even rent bikes completely for free!

The History of Schloss Haindorf
The baroque castle has its origins in the early 1600s as a mill known as “Feldmühle.” It’s likely older, though, with roots going back to 1407 when the “Loisbachmühle” was first mentioned.
Over the years, the castle changed owners several times, with notable periods under the Grundemann family (1680–1876) and later Friedrich Graf Lanjus von Wellenburg, who restored it.
In 1973, the Austrian Construction Industry Association purchased Schloss Haindorf and renovated it by 1978, turning it into a seminar hotel and training center under the BAUAkademie brand.

In 2003, a new seminar building was added, and from 2020 to 2023, the hotel underwent extensive renovations, including additional spaces and a new training facility for apprentices.
While it lacks the typical features of a castle, like a chapel or a prison, it features other hidden gems, including a secret “Kellerstüberl” (cellar tavern).

Modern Rooms With Traditional Character
Thanks to recent renovations, all 45 rooms are brand new and combine modern comfort with a relaxed atmosphere.
While you can choose between three categories – Double Room Castle, Modern Twin Room (in the new wing), and Junior Suite Castle – each room is completely unique.
What they all have in common is that they’re spacious, thoughtfully designed, and furnished with high-quality pieces from local makers.

Wellness & Fitness: Everything You Need
The wellness area at Schloss Haindorf may be on the smaller side – with a sauna, sanarium, and cozy relaxation room – but it’s included in the room rate and offers just the right amount of calm after a day of activities.
Personally, I much prefer a quiet sauna session over sharing the space with 50 strangers.

The fitness room at Schloss Haindorf is one of the largest I’ve seen in a hotel of this size, with a solid selection of cardio machines and weights.
When the weather doesn’t cooperate for outdoor activities like biking or hiking, this is the perfect spot to stay active. Plus, you can enjoy a view of the lush park outside while you work out!

Delicious & Diverse: Restaurant Loisbach
Of course, the hotel also has its own restaurant, Loisbach.
It offers a flexible menu with daily lunch specials during the week, à la carte options for lunch on weekends and holidays, à la carte dinner from Thursday to Saturday, and a snack menu every evening except Sunday.
In the morning, it’s also where the breakfast buffet is served, offering cold cuts and cheeses, egg dishes, homemade spreads (vegan options included), pastries, fresh bread (also gluten-free), cereals, fruits, regional juices, plant-based drinks, and more.

They can even cater to special diet requests, like vegan. For example, they prepared a delightful vegan meal for me, including spring rolls, braised celery with Indian bean purée, and coconut panna cotta.

Other available options that day included falafel with Mediterranean vegetables, beetroot carpaccio, grilled catfish with wild garlic risotto, and roast beef with bacon-wrapped beans and fried potatoes.

I was also told they once catered a wedding where the bride was vegan, showing how adaptable they are for special occasions!
Btw, wedding is the right keyword for the next part, as Schloss Haindorf also offers a stunning setting for events.
A Venue For Every Event
Schloss Haindorf isn’t just a hotel – it’s the perfect place for special occasions! From weddings and birthday parties to seminars and conferences, the unique atmosphere and diverse facilities ensure that you can host everything in one place.
With eight seminar and event rooms, the large festival hall, plus additional spaces like the inner courtyard and park, the venue offers plenty of options for any event.

In winter, Schloss Haindorf hosts a charming annual Christmas market, while in summer, the castle serves as the stunning backdrop for the popular Operette Langenlois.
Final Words
I arrived at Schloss Haindorf with zero expectations – and left already thinking about when I could come back. This place honestly surprised me: calm, charming, versatile, and just really pleasant all around.
Whether you’re looking to relax, get active, or celebrate something special, it’s the kind of spot that makes you want to stay a little longer!
