Patmos Eye – A Place You’ll Want to Stay Forever (Review)

Some places feel special the moment you arrive. Where time seems to slow down, the view takes your breath away, and every little detail makes you feel at home.

That’s exactly what happened during my stay at Patmos Eye, a boutique hideaway nestled above the port town of Skala on the Greek island of Patmos.

Patmos is a peaceful, spiritual island full of quiet charm, beautiful beaches, and whitewashed villages.

And Patmos Eye fits perfectly into that atmosphere. What began as a hotel stay turned into something more – a place that left a lasting impression.

Let me show you why!

First Impressions

After an 8-hour ferry ride from Athens, I arrived on Patmos at around 2 am. Tired, a bit dazed, and not expecting much beyond a quick check-in, I was surprised by how calm and welcoming everything felt the moment I stepped into Patmos Eye.

Even in the dark, you could feel that this place was special. The soft lighting, the quiet atmosphere, and the first glimpse of the beautiful architecture – stone walls, wooden beams, handmade tiles – made a strong first impression.

The next morning, when I had time to take it all in properly, I noticed more of the lovely details, including a small shop near the entrance selling handpicked Greek crafts and design pieces.

Not the usual souvenirs, but thoughtfully chosen items that matched the hotel’s style.

A Tranquil Stay With Private Pool

At Patmos Eye, there’s a boutique hotel that opened in September 2024, offering 12 rooms in various categories, alongside private villas that have been welcoming guests since 2015.

The Boutique Hotel

For four nights, I stayed in one of the Sea View Suites with Plunge Pool. The suite was a generous 40 square meters and named “Tria,” which means three in Greek.

Before entering the actual room, I first stepped into a beautiful Secret Garden-style courtyard with an outdoor seating area, a parasol, and a pool overlooking the sea. Only then did a second door lead into the suite itself.

This unique layout made it feel like I had my very own private retreat, perfectly blending the outdoors, privacy, and comfort.

The room itself was spacious and light-filled, combining the elegance of traditional Patmian architecture with all the comforts of a boutique stay.

Antique touches, handpicked décor, and a calming color palette made it feel more like my very own luxurious island home than a hotel room.

There was also a complimentary mini bar stocked with soft drinks, chocolate, and Greek specialties with mastic, along with fresh fruits and nuts.

On top of that, thoughtful extras like flip flops, kimonos, bath towels, a beach bag, and more are provided – a lovely touch that makes the stay feel extra special.

The Villas: A Private Island Escape

During my time at Patmos Eye, I also had the chance to explore some of the private villas, and they are truly outstanding!

The Villas

From the charming two-bedroom house with its private hammam (which can be converted into a three-bedroom maisonette) to the impressive Patmian Residence boasting three bedrooms and a private pool, these villas are perfect for families, groups, or anyone looking for extra space and privacy.

Each villa reflects the same careful attention to detail, blending traditional Patmian architecture with modern comforts, all framed by stunning sea views.

Spacious private terraces and outdoor areas, and thoughtful amenities like hammams and pools make them ideal for longer stays, special celebrations, or simply relaxing in style.

What’s more, the villas are interconnected and can, upon request, be fully connected to accommodate groups of up to 15 people!

Whether to unwind by your pool, host a sunset dinner on the terrace, or enjoy peaceful mornings with breathtaking views, these villas offer a luxurious and authentic island experience.

If I ever come back with friends or family (which I totally plan to), I know exactly where I’ll stay!

Breakfast Bliss at Patmos Eye

One of my favorite parts of the day was breakfast. At Patmos Eye, mornings start slowly and peacefully.

You can enjoy breakfast at the Tiny Restaurant or have it delivered to your room or villa (yes, that’s also possible!), but in any case, you always order from a menu rather than a buffet.

Everything — literally everything — is homemade, even the bread, which is freshly baked every day.

The menu offers a variety of choices like Greek pancakes, Greek scrambled eggs, bread and crisps, fresh orange juice, fruits, various coffees and teas, plus a “special treat of the day” that changes daily for a little surprise.

Patmos Eye Breakfast

One morning, I had breakfast delivered to my room and enjoyed it by my private plunge pool.

It arrived on a tray and included bread with artisanal marmalades, fresh orange juice, fresh fruits, granola with fruits and nuts, which I highly recommend, and a cappuccino with oat milk.

Dinner & Drinks With a View

Speaking of the Tiny Restaurant, it’s not just for breakfast.

In the evenings, it opens for dinner, offering light bites and cold cuts. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, just right after a day of exploring.

At sunset – or even during the day – the Pink Veranda is a lovely spot for a drink. Overlooking the harbor, this small terrace is a great place to unwind.

Whether you’re enjoying a signature cocktail (the Greek Paloma is my favorite!) or tasting local wine with some small bites, the view and setting make it a pleasant experience.

Wellness Meets History: The Cave Spa

To round up a truly unique experience, don’t miss the Cave Spa Suite – a peaceful, private wellness retreat inspired by Patmos’ Cave of the Apocalypse.

From the Turkish hammam to soothing treatments, every detail is designed to help you relax and recharge.

I had the Ayurvedic Full-Body Massage followed by a short hammam session. Ivelina, the spa therapist, did an absolutely fantastic job, paying close attention to the areas where my body held the most tension and working on them perfectly.

The treatments use luxurious products by Onar Wellness, a Greek brand that blends nature and science beautifully.

Each session also includes the “Earthy Patio Experience”, where you’re served a soothing cup of natural bio-botanical tea at a peaceful spot with breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.

Honestly, my time at the spa was one of the most calming experiences I’ve had in a long time!

More Than a Hotel – A Love Story

Now, I’ve already shared all the highlights of Patmos Eye — the rooms, the spa, the design — but what truly makes this place unique is the story behind it.

This place is the creation of Marietta and Fredy, a couple who fell in love with Patmos 25 years ago. Their dream turned into a family project, and that heart shows in every detail.

In 2015, they opened the villas and have been continuously working on the boutique hotel ever since, thoughtfully shaping it into the special retreat it is today.

Handmade tiles with the youngest daughter’s footprints in front of each room & villa

From antique furniture found in Istanbul and Paris to the handmade tiles with their daughter’s baby footprints, this hotel is full of personal touches and quiet memories.

You feel like a guest in someone’s beautiful, soulful home – not just a customer.

Final Words

My four nights at Patmos Eye passed way too quickly, but the feeling of this place stayed with me.

It’s one of those spots that gets the balance just right – stylish yet relaxed, thoughtful but never overdone, and always deeply connected to the island around it.

Every detail seems thoughtfully considered, from the handpicked, even handmade decor to the freshly baked bread in the morning. It’s a place where you feel genuinely welcome and where the atmosphere invites you to slow down and just be.

If you’re craving some quiet time, a romantic escape, or simply a stay with real character, Patmos Eye is the kind of place that’s hard to walk away from. I definitely didn’t feel ready to leave.

Together with the blue seas, soft island breezes, and breakfasts served with homemade jam and a view – this might just be your perfect spot.

Hard to say goodbye to a view like this
