Sad but deeply relaxed and with fewer tensions in my back.
That’s how I felt when I left the Resort Svata Katerina after my 3-night stay.
Oh wait, I’m already writing about leaving the resort before I even told you about my awesome time there!
Of course, I want to share my great experience with you guys and introduce this place to you.
The best way to start is to share a bit of its history and some other interesting facts.
Interesting Things to Know About Resort Svata Katerina
I don’t know about you but I’m always eager to learn more about the history of places I travel to. Yes, that does even include hotels!
Luckily, the hotel manager was so kind and gave me and my friend a short tour around the property. He was really knowledgeable and knew a lot about the resort’s past which I’m going to share with you now.
If you think history is boring and you prefer living fully in the now, don’t worry, you can skip this part. 😉
History
No one can really say how long the founding of Resort Svata Katerina dates back. There are a lot of different myths and legends and the most famous one is about the Léskovec family.
According to tales, the Léskovec family resided in a nearby fortress in the 16th century. The two daughters of the family, Katerina, and Markéta, both suddenly suffered from the sickness typhoid.
Desperately searching for treatment, their father gave them water from the forest springs to drink. Miraculously, both daughters recovered after drinking this “holy water”.
To express his gratitude and to thank god, their father built a chapel right next to the spring dedicated to St. Katerina.
The other spring, only 600 feet away from the chapel, was dedicated to St. Markéta.
In the same century, the lords of Hradec often visited the springs and also built a summer residence and a spa there. In 1789, the spa was modernized and the number of visitors started growing a lot.
At the end of the 19th century, Resort Svata Katerina was thriving and many prominent people from all over the Czech Republic came to recharge and heal their nerves.
After World War II in 1953, it was used as a sanatorium to treat children with respiratory illnesses.
In 2006, an entrepreneur bought the spa and rebuilt it in its present form.
Ever since then, the resort is a magnet for people who want to treat themself and recharge their energy.
Yoga classes, wellness programs, and Ayurvedic therapies are only a few of the many things the resort offers.
I’ll share some more details about all the amazing treatments later in this post. However, now it’s time to show you another very special place you won’t find that easily anywhere else.
Stone Circle of The Druids
Welcome to the Stonehenge of the Czech Republic!
Well, almost.
The Stone Circle of the Druids was built in 2014 and is a modern replica of a megalithic structure.
It’s mainly for relaxation, meditation, and recovery purposes and should help people improve their health.
To benefit from its special energy, it’s necessary to follow a certain ritual. I’m a very spiritual person and I do believe in all that kind of stuff so of course, I had to try it.
The entrance to the circle is a short passage between the two highest stones. While entering, you need to place your hands on both of the stones as long as you feel it’s enough.
There are three different types of mediation rituals. I did the one to increase my awareness which took seven minutes.
During these minutes, I first stood on the middle stone and then lay down on my back.
Before I left the circle through the two highest stones again, I finished the ritual by following the circle clockwise and touching every stone for a few seconds.
I’m not joking when I say I felt different after doing this ritual. If you’re interested, you can read more about it and the different types of meditation on the official website of Svata Katerina.
Hotel Buildings
The entire area of the resort covers 30 ha so no wonder there’s enough space for not only one but three hotel buildings!
First, there’s the main building with a reception, a restaurant, a spa area, and two small ponds.
The other two buildings are a bit smaller but also close by. One of them is even pet-friendly so you’re allowed to bring your dog with you!
Also good to know: The resort is a car-free zone. Visitors need to park their car in Počátky from where they’ll be picked up by a shuttle bus.
My room was located in the main building with a wonderful view of the two ponds. Both of them are really beautiful and tranquil and it’s possible to swim in the smaller one!
Believe it or not, there’s so much more to see on the resort property.
You have to explore it on your own tho because now it’s time to show you why Resort Svata Katerina is a true wellness oasis!
Wellness & Relaxation at The Resort Svata Katerina
The resort Svata Katerina has two main wellness areas.
Hotel Wellness & Spa
As I already mentioned above, there’s a spa area in the basement of the main hotel building.
There you can find Jacuzzis, a sauna, a steam room, and a relaxation room. Moreover, you can choose from a variety of treatments such as facials, aromatic baths, or Rasul baths.
Besides the Jacuzzis in the basement, there are also some on a terrace outside the first floor.
Grab a glass of champagne and enjoy a stunning sunset while relaxing in a bubbling bath in the middle of nature!
Isn’t this just the perfect way to end a day?
For more information about the Jacuzzi under the sky and all the different treatments check out the Spa procedures.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally time to introduce you to my absolute favorite part of the resort.
It’s the place, where I got all my energy back, and saying goodbye to was the hardest: The Ayurveda Pavilion.
Ayurveda Pavilion
Finished in March 2019, the Ayurveda Pavilion is the newest building at the resort. It was built with the Kairali Ayurveda Group to offer authentic Ayurveda experiences.
You don’t even need to go inside the pavilion to be stunned- it’s already breathtaking from the outside!
The entire wooden building seems to be literally floating on granite pillars. A meditation garden with a small waterfall, a beautiful gate, and statues of Hindu gods make you feel like you got transported to South India.
The inner part of the pavilion is basically divided into two parts.
First, there’s the spa area with a heated swimming pool, two Jacuzzis, a sauna, a steam room a small Kneipp walking pool.
Plus, there’s also a big terrace with sunbeds to chill outside when the weather is nice.
The other part of the pavilion is entirely devoted to Ayurveda. Therapeutic rooms, relaxation areas with peaceful forest views, and an Ayurvedic doctor’s room can be found there.
It’s a very bright and friendly atmosphere and the walls are covered with wooden decor from Indonesia.
The variety of Ayurvedic therapies offered is almost endless. I tried ABHYANGA – a full-body oil massage with a short steam bath session afterward.
It was seriously one of the most amazing things I ever experienced. The smell of the oil was intense but very good and Charles – the masseur – did a great job soothing my tensions away.
The second Ayurvedic therapy I got was SHIRODHARA. It’s basically a healing technique where someone pours liquid (mostly oil) on your forehead.
It was the first time I ever tried it and to be honest, I was a bit skeptical initially. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it and I felt deeply relaxed afterward.
The fact that my hair was completely oily and I had to wash it twice was not that cool but it was totally worth it! 😀
For more information about Ayurveda and the different types of treatments check out the Ayurvedic therapies.
(Outdoor) Activities to do
Even though there’s a heavy focus on wellness and Ayurveda, Resort Svata Katerina is more than that.
Besides getting pampered and chilling all day long, you can do a lot of different outdoor and indoor activities!
Some of these activities include pilates, golf, horseback riding, and tennis and you can also rent bikes to explore the area.
Another major focus is Yoga and there are a couple of different Yoga classes throughout the day. I participated in a morning basic lesson focused on breathing and stretching.
Packages & Prices
If you plan on staying at the resort you can either book a few nights directly via their contact site or Booking.com.
Another option is to book one of their many packages including a variety of services depending on the type.
The one I highly recommend is the Ayurveda weekend package. For an unbeatable price of less than €280 (~ $300) you get two nights, a yoga lesson, an Ayurvedic cooking lesson, two appointments with an Ayurveda doctor and so much more!
Plus, let’s not forget the absolutely delicious and authentic Ayurvedic food prepared by an Indian chef. Eating it reminded me of my fantastic time in Bangalore.
It’s the perfect option for an affordable wellness weekend getaway!
If Ayurveda isn’t 100% your thing and/or you want to stay longer then check out some other packages focusing on Yoga, Wellness, Destress, Pilates, and more.
Review of Resort Svata Katerina

Every single person at the resort was courteous, friendly, and welcoming, and did their best to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. I felt very well taken care of and I can honestly say that I will definitely come back again.
I’ve never felt that grounded and relaxed before and I really wish you can experience the same on your own as well.
