A Relaxing Weekend at Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee (Review)

With the Salzkammergut being one of my favorite regions in Austria, I’ve been to St. Wolfgang quite a few times already. For me, it’s one of the most picturesque towns in the country.

Most of those trips were just for a day since it’s only about a two-hour drive. This time, though, I stayed for the whole weekend with my boyfriend and checked into Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee.

And honestly, this stay felt completely different from my previous visits. Instead of rushing through in a day, we finally had time to slow down and really enjoy St. Wolfgang – and the Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee was the perfect place for that.

Waking up to stunning lake views, enjoying a relaxed breakfast, and spending the day swimming in the heated outdoor pool and doing some sauna sessions just made for a truly wonderful and unforgettable weekend.

But let’s take a closer look at the hotel and why, in my opinion, it’s the perfect place for a getaway to St. Wolfgang!

First Impressions

It was around 3:00 pm on Friday when we arrived at Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee. We quickly grabbed our bags from the car and headed to the reception to check in.

We were greeted by two lovely ladies who asked about our journey, if the drive had been nice, and whether we’d already found a parking spot.

Instead of jumping straight into check-in, we were invited to enjoy a welcome drink – inside or outside with a view of the lake. Since it was such a sunny day, we headed outside and found a lovely table in the sun.

While we waited for a glass of prosecco and a beer for my partner, we were given a tablet to complete the remaining check-in details, along with the room card and all other important information.

It was really the most relaxing way to do the check-in, just sitting there, enjoying our drinks and soaking up the sunshine.

And once we finished our drinks, it was time to check out our room.

Our Room at Seevilla Wolfgangsee

The Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee has a total of 29 individually designed rooms, ranging from cozy, smaller rooms with or without a balcony to suites with their own sauna, decorative fireplace, and a loggia.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying in plenty of amazing hotel rooms over the years, and ours here definitely ranks among the most remarkable ones.

The room category we stayed in is called the See Loft, a junior suite with about 41 square meters of space plus a 15 square meters loggia, part of the newly added rooms following a major renovation in June 2024.

It was located on the fourth and top floor, right at the end of the hallway. The first thing I noticed when opening the door was the high ceiling, which immediately made the room feel spacious.

To the left, the bathroom opened up with a big walk-in shower, a separate toilet, and a double sink with organic care products. Just beyond the open bathroom was one of my absolute highlights of the room: a private sauna just for us, which we definitely made full use of!

The bedroom and living area flowed together in an open-plan layout, with a huge, super-comfy bed, a decorative fireplace you could control with a remote, a sofa with a small table, a swivel TV, and a freestanding bathtub with a view of the lake.

Wooden floors and other wooden accents, plenty of natural light, and the high ceilings kept the whole space feeling airy and open.

Of course, there was fast and reliable Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a minibar (only the water was free), free tea and coffee, and two wellness bags with slippers and towels.

Besides the private sauna, another one of my absolute favorite highlights was the loggia. It was a spacious private terrace with a roof, comfy seating, and sun loungers, where we spent a lot of time after our sauna sessions, sipping tea and enjoying the view.

Speaking of the view: it was absolutely mind-blowing. Waking up to the calm lake stretching out in front of us, with the morning light reflecting on the water, made it impossible not to start the day in a good mood!

Lake Wolfgangsee

I mean, just look at the photo above – who wouldn’t want to wake up to a view like that?

Restaurant & Bar

The hotel has its own restaurant called Ledererhaus, where breakfast is served each morning and a small lunch menu is available at noon. In the evening, you can choose from a gourmet à la carte menu.

You can sit inside in bright, cozy rooms with a view of the lake, or outside when the weather is warm and nice. Since we were there at the end of March, it was still a bit too cold for that.

Dinner

We had dinner there on our first evening and were served a 3-course surprise menu. I had let them know in advance that I’m vegan, and they adapted the menu for me without any problems.

At the beginning, I received homemade bread served with guacamole and olive oil. The official starter dish was a creamy curry soup, followed by fregola with tomato, vegetables, and black salsify.

For dessert, I had a sorbet variation with fruits and a gin and sugar syrup reduction. I wasn’t a fan of the latter (mostly because I don’t really like gin), but the mint sorbet was absolutely heavenly!

To drink, I ordered the Marajuca Dream – maracuja juice with prosecco – which I can highly recommend, while my boyfriend went for a classic Negroni.

We had a fantastic dinner! The food was delicious, the drinks were perfect, and the service was impeccable.

Breakfast

I always enjoy having breakfast at hotels (even if I wish my stomach could handle more), and the breakfast at Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee had pretty much everything you could want.

Of course, there were all the basics like bread, lots of cold cuts, cheeses, and jams, but you’ll also find vegan spreads, fresh fruits, grilled vegetables, and plant-based milk options.

On top of that, you can order dishes from the menu, where I went for a porridge with oat milk and avocado bread, both of which were really good.

Also, let’s not forget about my beloved coffee, which I only drink as a Latte Macchiato or Caffè Latte with oat milk — so it’s basically more milk than coffee. But they happily made it, and it was excellent, using beans from the high-quality Italian brand Pascucci.

At this point, I want to give a shout-out to the incredible service staff, who remembered our order from the first morning and asked if we wanted the same again the next day.

It’s a remarkable level of attention and care that makes you feel genuinely seen and valued – and it’s definitely not easy to remember orders from more than 50 people!

Besides the main restaurant seating area, there’s also a bar where you can enjoy drinks by the cozy fireplace or outside on the sun loungers.

Spa & Pool

The wellness area was the place where we definitely spent most of our time. Called “Lake Spa”, the entire wellness area is, of course, oriented toward Lake Wolfgangsee.

There’s a Finnish sauna with direct views of the lake, a steam bath right next to it, and an infrared cabin. We only used the sauna once since we had our own in the room, but the two relaxation rooms were absolutely lovely.

They’re beautifully decorated, really cozy, and full of little touches that make you want to stay here all day long – soft blankets, pillows, magazines, and even lots of books. Just like in our room, there was also a decorative fireplace in one, which added even more to the cozy atmosphere.

If you’re craving a little snack in between, there are apples and nuts, plus a selection of teas and water.

From the spa inside, you also have direct access to the lake and the year-round heated outdoor pool. In winter, it’s warmed to a comfortable 32°C, while in summer it stays at a refreshing 26°C. It also includes an integrated whirlpool area.

Around the pool and right by the lake, there are also plenty of sun loungers – I can imagine how nice it is to relax here in summer. I’d love to come back and experience it myself!

You also have the option to book a variety of massages, with the treatment room located on the third floor and offering beautiful views of the lake.

Fitness & Yoga

Fitness lovers and yoga fans are also well taken care of at Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee. On the fourth floor, you’ll find a small but well-equipped gym with all the essentials like a treadmill, cross trainer, dumbbells, and more.

Right behind it, there’s a panoramic yoga and gymnastics room as well as a terrace with incredible views of Lake Wolfgangsee. You can borrow yoga mats, blocks, and more, and move your body in the soft morning light.

Every Saturday, hotel guests can join a morning yoga session by simply signing up at the reception the day before. I unfortunately missed it, but I made use of the beautiful weather on our departure day and did a little stretching on the terrace.

Final Words

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Hotel Seevilla Wolfgangsee, and I really wish it had been longer than just a weekend.

Staying here is such a calm, peaceful experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt taken care of and at ease, thanks to the wonderful staff who remembered every little detail, from our breakfast preferences to making sure we had everything we needed.

Here, it’s not about “more is better.” It’s all about the attention to detail, from the hassle-free check-in to the well-thought-out rooms and the incredibly cozy wellness area.

It’s a place where you can really slow down and soak in the moment, with stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains at every turn that guarantee you’ll leave feeling calm, happy, and completely at ease.
