An Unforgettable Stay at Rea Boutique Hotel (Review)

Picture yourself in a lovingly designed rooftop suite, featuring an open terrace with a Jacuzzi and breathtaking sea views, complemented by the hospitality of the gracious owners.

Welcome – you have just arrived at Rea Boutique Hotel!

This intimate and stylish 5-star hotel is nestled at the far end of the Himare beach promenade, right along the oceanfront. Offering only a few rooms, it is a quiet and relaxing haven for anyone seeking a tranquil getaway, far from large, crowded hotel resorts.

Together with my partner, I was fortunate to spend two nights here during our road trip through Albania.

Initially, Himare wasn’t on our itinerary, but when we stumbled upon this boutique hotel, saw the photos, and read the descriptions on the website, we were immediately captivated.

So, instead of staying in Dhermi, we made the decision to stop in Himare – which turned out to be just the right choice! And if we had known how much we would enjoy it, we would have gladly extended our stay by another night or two.

But let’s start from the beginning!

Our Memorable Stay at Rea Boutique Hotel

After a two-hour drive from Ksamil, we reached Himare around lunchtime. The hotel was easy to find, situated at the end of the promenade in a cul-de-sac.

Unsure of the parking arrangements, we drove straight up to the front door, where fortunately, there was a small parking lot for guests to use during check-in and check-out.

After parking the car, we went to the reception where one of the hotel owners – a married couple runs the hotel – greeted us and began the check-in process.

Since we arrived a bit early and our room had not been cleaned yet, we were kindly invited for two drinks in the meantime.

The owner also informed us about the public parking lot just a short distance from the hotel, which guests were allowed to use free of charge.

We quickly unloaded the suitcases from the car, moved it to the other parking lot, and then took a seat at the beautiful sea view terrace.

It didn’t take long and we had just finished our Cokes when we were informed that our room was ready to move in.

Comfortable & Luxurious With Attention to Detail

Rea Boutique Hotel offers seven rooms in various categories, ranging from standard double rooms to superior double rooms and sea-view suites, the latter of which we stayed in.

Our suite was one of two located on the top floor in a mansard.

Measuring 55 square meters, the suite was divided into four areas: a living room with a couch, TV, fridge, and storage space; a small bathroom with a shower and sink; and a sleeping area with a large king-size bed and another TV.

Our favorite place, however, was the terrace, featuring seating, a Jacuzzi, and plants. And not to forget the incredible view of Himare and the ocean.

It was definitely where we spent most of our time while in the room. The atmosphere was especially magical in the evening when the sun slowly disappeared behind the horizon.

Ending the day with a glass of Albanian wine in the Jacuzzi was indescribably beautiful!

Something I noticed was how much love the hotel owners had put into the suite’s decoration and furniture.

Candles, flowers, and books were thoughtfully placed throughout, adding touches that made the room feel even more homely and beautiful.

A Breakfast Fulfilling Every Wish

I’m not usually big on breakfast. A coffee, some bread with jam, and a bit of fruit are generally enough for me. Plus, as a vegan, finding suitable breakfast options can be tricky in some countries as I also tend to be picky and prefer sweet over savory.

However, at Rea Boutique Hotel, it was different. They provided me with more breakfast options than any other hotel I’ve ever stayed at.

There isn’t a typical breakfast buffet; instead, you choose your favorite dish(es) from a menu. From various egg dishes to avocado toast, porridge, pancakes, and even traditional Albanian dishes, there’s a great variety for everyone.

Even as a strict “herbivore,” I had plenty of options. For instance, I could choose from three types of plant-based milk for my coffee, which genuinely stunned and pleasantly surprised me!

On the first morning, when I ordered porridge and my coffee with plant-based milk for the first time, the other hotel owner asked if I was vegan – which I confirmed that I was.

She immediately brought me a vegan version of the traditional Albanian fried dough (Petulla) to enjoy with my porridge and promised to make me vegan pancakes the next morning — an offer I couldn’t refuse!

Thinking back on those pancakes now makes my mouth water, they were truly the best vegan pancakes I’ve had in over six years of being vegan!

Combined with a delicious quinoa salad with avocados and vegetables, along with my beloved coffee, it was a fantastic start to the day!

Hotel Owners With Heart & Soul

Certainly, the beautiful room, unbeatable location, and fantastic breakfast all contributed to our unforgettable stay, but nothing impressed us more than the hotel owners themselves.

Seeing them working in their hotel, you could literally feel their passion and joy. They paid such close attention to every single guest and ensured that everything was to everyone’s complete satisfaction, it was incredibly heart-warming to watch.

At Rea Boutique Hotel, you don’t just feel like another guest. Instead, it feels like you’re part of a big family, making it all the more difficult to say goodbye.

So be aware that when you book your stay at Rea Boutique Hotel, it will be incredibly hard to leave!
